The UK Rebukes the UN and Bows to the Israeli Embassy over “Terrorism” Arrests of Journalists 557

There is a stunning contrast between the access given by the UK to the Israeli Embassy to influence prosecutions of anti-Genocide journalists and protestors, and the repudiation by the UK of United Nations querying such prosecutions. The UK has rebuked the UN for “outside interference”.

I cannot state enough how unusual it is for the UK to give direct access to the Israeli Embassy to the Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, in order for the Israeli government to influence the prosecution of UK citizens. This is not about extradition, in which case there may be treaty arrangements for direct contact between prosecutors. It is just not normal nor right for an Embassy to be involved with domestic prosecutions in this way.

This is one of a series of heavily redacted emails seen by the Guardian, Middle East Eye and lawyers for Palestine Action. They show the Israeli government being granted direct influence with UK police and prosecutors, to urge the prosecution of UK citizens protesting in the UK, against a genocide for which Israel stands accused at the International Court of Justice, with her leaders indicted before the International Criminal Court.

There is no British precedent for this situation and it is very much against international practice, although comparators may be found in influencing prosecution decisions in Vichy France or the Eastern European communist bloc by Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union – though there were instances of pushback even there. By contrast the UK system is openly influenced by the Israelis.

There is no reticence from the UK government in forwarding Israel influence. Although all released correspondence has been heavily redacted, it is plain that individual cases have been discussed with the Israelis, including those of Palestine Action.

The United Nations has written to the UK on the subject of its treatment both of pro-Palestinian protestors and journalists and the abuse of anti-terrorism legislation. It is almost certain that some of the same cases the UN cites are those the Israeli Embassy has been involved in. The contrast between the UK’s treatment of the Israelis and of the United Nations could scarcely be different. The Israelis are invited in, while the Starmer regime has repudiated the United Nations.

This is stunning hypocrisy. It is characterised as being in the interest of those being persecuted by the UK and Israel, to prevent “interference from international organisations” such as the United Nations. This is beyond the pen of Orwell or Kafka. You can imagine the authors sniggering as they wrote it.

But the truth is the exact opposite of the UK government line. Unlike the Israeli Embassy, the United Nations really does have a right to interfere. The Special Procedures mechanisms by which the United Nations approached the UK are a well-established part of international law, and the UK is a party to them. These are instituted by the Human Rights Council, and it has always been the position of the UK that all nations are subject to them.

In addition the UK is since 1971 a full party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which is monitored by the Human Rights Committee and to the provisions of which the UN Special Rapporteurs specifically referred in querying the UK’s actions in this matter.

So the Israel Embassy has no right to interfere, and the United Nations has a direct right to interfere; yet the UK has encouraged the illegitimate while repudiating the legitimate. This is a classic example of the way that Zionism has fundamentally poisoned public institutions in the UK, and also of the profound Zionist capture of New Labour.

Yesterday’s revelation that David Lammy has lied to parliament and the country about suspending trade talks with Israel, while UK “trade envoy” Lord Austin is actually there, should be no surprise.

The hypocrisy does not even end there. The UK has been the most vociferous of countries in weaponising the UN Special Procedures against its own designated enemies, such as Russia and China. For the UK now to repudiate these UN investigations as “interference” is precisely to adopt the position of those states it has long argued against.

I have no doubt that this has been duly noted by any dictatorship the UK may seek to criticise in future.

You will recall that I am among a number of journalists about whose detention under the Terrorism Act and the seizure of whose electronic equipment, and thus correspondence, the United Nations interrogate the UK. You can read the UK government reply in full here.

ukgovtreply

Since the UN wrote, there have been further high-profile arrests of journalists, including Sarah Wilkinson and Asa Winstanley. The basic UK response is that the UN should not interfere, but one point of detail the UK states is particularly worth noting. Detentions and confiscations such as mine under the Terrorism Act specifically do not require the police to have any “reasonable grounds of suspicion”.

What kind of state makes a point of empowering its police to act unreasonably?

But read this further from the UK government reply:

I was detained and my electronics seized under Section 7. That means the UK government is claiming that I was “concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism”. Just digest that for a moment.

I might say that nothing in my questioning – which was roughly equally split between the subjects of Wikileaks and Palestine – related in any way to the potential commission of any acts of terrorism. Is the government really pretending that, in travelling home from an Assange campaign meeting in Iceland, they truly suspected I was preparing to commit terrorism? This is ludicrous.

It has often been noticed that despite Sarah Wilkinson, Asa Winstanley, Richard Medhurst, Johanna Ross, John Laughland, Vanessa Beeley, Kit Klarenberg, Ernest Moret, Richard Barnard, Tony Greenstein and Natalie Strecker all being swept up under the Terrorism Act in a campaign against journalists this last two years, there has never been a single mention in UK mainstream media of the UK’s arrest of journalists under the Terrorism Act.

Even following the United Nations intervention to question the UK on the arrest of journalists the UK did not mention it. Even the UK’s tiny number of licensed anti-genocide voices in the mainstream media, such as Owen Jones, have never mentioned it.

Yesterday Asa Winstanley won an important legal victory at the Old Bailey where a senior judge ruled that the police raid on his home and seizure of his equipment was unlawful. That is an important and rare legal victory, and I am tempted to attribute it partly to the turning of the tide of Establishment opinion against sacrificing all principles of law to the interests of Israel.

You may perhaps not be surprised to learn that this victory, too, has not been covered by the mainstream media. This conspiracy of silence over extreme abuse of police power against journalists is deeply troubling.

Listen to Scott Ritter on Judge Nap.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5p_faUdJT3w&ab_channel=JudgeNapolitano-JudgingFreedom

He is saying the drone attacks on the Russian nuclear bombers was a British created, driven, managed operation (working with the SBU).

He says Britain has been the loudest voice saying ‘the Russians are bluffing’… and incredibly that this attack was designed to demonstrate that they are bluffing by daring them to respond and believing they won’t…calling their bluff.

He also says this attack was not approved by Trump nor did he likely even know about it.

IMHO I suspect all of this is likely true, it really fits.

If this was the UK behind this ‘they’ have done something really stupid here (or maybe it is deliberate I am really not sure anymore). They just keep prodding and prodding and this is the time they are going to get bit (I fear).

This is all part of the Spookocracy (as it has been called on here) behind Starmer. These people are psychotic, insane and totally out of control. A danger to us all and the world. They have really painted a target on the UK now IF what Ritter says is correct.

This is either evil or madness. I feel like Britain is now being used just as Ukraine was used. As something disposable to provoke WW3 and face certain annihilation if ‘successful’ in its provocations. None of this is being done in our name nor for our benefit. It is about desperate people desperate to hold onto power and this is them deploying the samson option where they will bring the whole world down to maintain their dominance of the ashes.

That’s interesting because a day earlier he was saying it was the CIA who were behind it.

Typical Ritter and in either case the question to ask is ‘how would he know’? It’s just his opinion which has been regularly proved to be wrong (Putin won’t invade, it’ll all be over in a week etc).

He’s probably right about Trump not knowing though. He (Trump) has proved himself to be utterly unreliable, I wouldn’t trust him with any secret or confidential information. Would you?

      • Republicofscotland

        Pears Morgaine.

No doubt the English government was involved in the planning of the attacks on Russian bombers – any dirty trick planned with Ukraine in mind – usually has John Bull’s fingerprints on it somewhere. Also the US Deep State was involved in it as well – planned under Biden and executed under Trump – Trump being kept out of the loop, of which he (Trump) said about Russia’s counter attacks.

“Well, they gave Putin a reason to go in and bomb the hell out of them last night,” Trump stated. “That’s something I didn’t like about it. When I saw it, I said: ‘Here we go… now it’s going to be a strike.’”

Trump is deliberately being kept out of the loop – as the US Deep State, and Nato allies – have decided to keep an upcoming meeting with regards to Ukraine short, so as not to upset Trump. Well, we all know and saw how spineless Merz of Germany is – with his visit to the Whitehouse recently.

The US Deep States actors recently undermined Trump’s meeting with China’s Xi.

Leaked to Reuters from Washington – days after Trump met Xi, in a bid by Trump to get Rare Earth Elements (REE) held by China back on the market which US companies badly need.

“The U.S. in recent days suspended licenses for nuclear equipment suppliers to sell to China’s power plants, according to four people familiar with the matter, as the two countries engage in a damaging trade war.
The suspensions were sent to companies by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the people said, and affect export licenses for parts and equipment used with nuclear power plants.

Nuclear equipment suppliers are among a wide range of companies whose sales have been restricted over the past two weeks as the U.S.-China trade war shifted from negotiating tariffs to throttling each other’s supply chains. It is unclear whether a Thursday call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping would affect the suspensions.”

        • Pears Morgaine

Belief that the UK must’ve been involved is dependent on believing that either Ukraine is incapable of planning such an operation by themselves or that the UK is driving them to defend their homeland when they really just want to surrender. Neither is true of course, not that everybody will accept that.

          • Republicofscotland

            Pears Morgaine.

The Neo-Nazi dictatorship (Ukraine) incapable yes, without the West supplying it with a plethora of weapons, tasked satellites – and personnel training – the Neo-Nazi dictatorship would’ve collapsed ages ago – first in line to back the Neo-Nazi dictatorship is of course England – the dictator Zelensky even said that Britain is a great ally, which translates to the English government spending billions of taxpayers cash on propping up that failed regime.

Add in the same English government – is also aiding and abetting in a genocide in Gaza, carried out by the evil Zionists, and we see John Bull at work – putting aside the plethora of aid and weapons given to the Zio-Monsters, Starmer – has wasted at least £20 million pounds of taxpayers cash on spy flight over Gaza, flights that send targeting info to the IOF, who then use the info to murder women and children in Gaza, under the guise of killing Hamas fighters.

John Bull props up some of the most evil regimes on the planet including the likes of Bahrain and Oman.

          • Tom74

My guess is that you can be pretty sure that anything the US blames/credits the UK, or just about any of their ‘allies’, is in fact their own doing – especially if if it fails. The US have a record of passing off their own incompetence, immorality and dishonesty on to other nations. Still, one thing is for almost certain – Ukraine didn’t destroy Russia’s bombers, not unless they were working with at least one of the Western powers. What we have seen in the British media is, therefore, plainly more lies.

          • Bayard

“UK is driving them to defend their homeland when they really just want to surrender. ”

Wouldn’t you say that the best way to defend their homeland is to persuade the Russians to stop fighting and go back to Russia?

      Mac.

What makes you think that (convicted pedophile) Scott Ritter is better informed about Putin’s war against Ukraine than anyone else?

Your “They just keep prodding and prodding and this is the time they are going to get bit (I fear)”, hinting at a retaliatory attack on England for helping Ukraine is ridiculous.

What do you predict that Great Russia will do to punish England?

      • Alyson

Putin has issued warnings to the UK and the UK government has issued warnings to its citizens to prepare for something bad. The UK government is a liability, because it is micro managed by Israel and its ‘Friends’ in both main political parties. Stupid is as stupid does. They were promised rewards for being reckless and the rewards didn’t materialise, and the back-up disappeared. So who is driving this? Arms producers? Arms dealers? People who really don’t care what happens to the multi cultural citizens of the UK?

Thousands encircled Parliament yesterday, with their solidarity with the Palestinian people, British people of every colour and creed, united behind Jeremy Corbyn and his proposal for a full investigation into UK complicity in war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank.

        • Alyson

Boy does Israel have plans for us!!

“ The Metropolitan Police is trialling new ‘Sandcat’ armoured vehicles across London – which are manufactured by Israeli armoured vehicle company Plasan. For more than thirty years, Plasan has supplied these systems to the Israeli military, including around seven hundred ‘Sandcats’ since the beginning of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
A Met spokesperson said the eighteen vehicles it has bought from Plasan will be used to suppress ‘serious public disorder’ and will replace its fleet of ‘Jankel’ armoured cars, according to reports in The New Arab.
Israeli arms companies frequently use the deployment of their weapons in Gaza as a sales tool, boasting that they are ‘battle tested’ after being used against Palestinians.
The UK has just finished the hearing phase of a court case brought against it by advocates for Palestinian human rights to prevent it selling components for the F-35 strike aircraft that are slaughtering huge numbers of Palestinian civilians. While the UK government continues to enable Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, the Home Office is buying arms systems tested on them.”

ISTR you were complaining about someone making an ad hom attack on you some time back. Now that you’ve shown you are OK with ad hom attacks, no doubt you will keep quiet the next time it happens.

“What do you predict that Great Russia will do to punish England?”

You seem to be keen to find out the hard way. Do I detect the reckless courage of the non-combatant?

”What makes you think that (convicted paedophile) Scott Ritter is better informed about Putin’s war against Ukraine than anyone else?”

You don’t have to be a paedophile, a former weapons inspector or even the progeny of former Nazis like Chancellor Merz to know that the UK has been an active supporter of Ukraine militarily since at least February 2022. At no point have I detected any hint of the UK showing the slightest interest in diplomatic efforts to put an end to the conflict: their position remains, so far as I am aware, that Ukraine can be victorious on the battlefield and that territories which have voted to secede to the RF will be forcibly repatriated to Ukraine, along with the Crimea. Whilst the USA and occasional voices even within NATO have acknowledged that as an impossibility, the UK remains committed to its policy of ‘doubling down.’

To that end the UK under PM Starmer has made strenuous efforts to rally a ‘Coalition of the Willing’ with little success: it seems the closer to Russia a country is located the less enthusiasm there is for such a scheme. Despite an attempt to engender war fever inside the UK- a Guardian article yesterday gave space to some ‘expert’ who claimed ‘Russia was at war with Great Britain’- (not that ‘Great Britain was at war with Russia’) – Starmer has yet to convince his young men and women that going abroad to die in Ukraine is an attractive prospect. There can be little doubt that he would enthusiastically enact such a policy and receive wide backing from parliament in doing so but the public compliance is not there for the time being.

A revenge attack by RF on a GB military installation connected to these ‘Ukrainian’ attacks within Russia might alter the public mood. Perhaps Starmer would welcome such as a causus belli. However it is not clear whether this would whet the British people’s appetite for war or sicken them of the position they have been put in.

David, I would have thought that a Russian attack on an English military installation would be likely to rally support for the Westminster government.

A missile attack would be an act of war.

I suppose Putin could hire a few English half elves (hat tip to Tatyana) to plant a bomb.

Things are unlikely to be as clear as a Russian attack on a British military installation in explicit retaliation for alleged British involvement (which may well not have existed) in the June 2025 drone attacks. But when the regime in Britain does go on a war footing at home, there won’t be much popular resistance. It’s true that most people in Britain don’t have a f***ing clue what war means, but even the shock of finding out is unlikely to wake them up. After all they stayed asleep during Covid. Most of them would willingly stick their necks out to receive a kick in the teeth if someone from the local council, or representing the holy NHS, or on the television, or otherwise speaking in an authoritative voice, told them.

Bayard, touché wrt my reference to Ritter’s criminal record – though a man who would initiate sexual contact with children is not one I would care to quote approvingly in a debate.

I asked “What do you predict that Great Russia will do to punish England?”

          You replied:
“You seem to be keen to find out the hard way. Do I detect the reckless courage of the non-combatant?”

If Great Russia were to use WMDs against England, there would be no non-combatants in the affected area.

Full disclosure: I am not English and don’t live in England.

So what punishment do Putin supporters expect him to impose on England?

          • Crispa

Non – Putin supporters might drum up the idea of Novichok smeared on the door handle of 10 Downing Street or somewhere like that.

On the face of it not a bad idea but Larry the cat might lick it off and that would be unacceptable.

Spot on, the West is involved and the UK is a prime player. However, when you say “I feel like Britain is now being used”, I disagree, they are not being used. The UK is a prime driver in all aspects of the Ukraine war, from funding, active on the ground support and planning operations. As in gaza, the UK is 100% guilty, and as mentioned elsewhere, their activities are part of the active and explicit proxy wars being waged against Russia and Iran on behalf of the West.
Starmer, Johnson and their mindless supporters are all war criminals just like Blair is. In a just world these bastards would all be swinging from a gallows.

History shows that that doesn’t happen unless you fight a war and lose.

Apologies in advance for posting this as “on topic” posts under this thread seem to be scarcer than rocking-horse shit.
While reading through the article, I opened the link “ukgovtreply” to be confronted by 9 pages of legalistic flim-flam which could have been condensed into:

    Dear U.N Rapporteur,
Fuck off, none of your business.

    Yours sincerely,

Its author(s) obviously never learnt précis at school.
Only a den of iniquity and nest of vipers like that crumbling neo-Gothic monstrosity situated at SW1A 0AA could have given birth to such Kafkaesque legislation in the first place. Guy Fawkes was approximately 420 years ahead of his time.

The US magazine Stars &Stripes has revealed that the USS Harry Truman will be out service for years to come – as it suffered significant damage whilst combatting Yemeni forces in the Red sea; US navy bigwigs forced the aircraft carriers commanders, to remain quiet on what actually occurred – when it came up against Yemeni forces.

A US Naval Institute spokesperson said – the USS Harry Truman, will undergo maintenance for years to come.

Meanwhile. The Ukrainians renege on the latest agreements made in Istanbul regarding prisoner and body swaps. Apparently, there are bodies of 6,000 dead Ukrainians in freezer trucks ready for repatriation to Ukraine and their families. However, the little dictator has refused to accept his dead countrymen. Speculation is that If the bodies are accepted then each family would be entitled to $320,000 each, which equates to over $2Bn.
Regardless of one’s opinions this doesn’t look good for Ukraine. A search on the BBC finds no mention of this whatever, Nadal!

      • Brian Red

This site which is pro the Kiev regime

        https://bukvy.org/en/ukraines-goverment-increases-compensation-for-fallen-and-wounded-soldiers/

says the family of each fallen Ukrainian soldier will receive 22.71 million hryvnias (~ USD $544,604). But maybe it comes to $320,000 once Zelensky and Kolomoisky etc. have taken their facilitation payments?

One reason that at least part of a compensation payment could depend on the return and burial or cremation of the body is that the authorities in Kiev are a pack of shysters.

As in…when they knock on the door, or send a text message, saying this is the army and we are so sorry, but your teenage son lost his life yesterday in service for his country….they don’t follow up immediately and say here’s your cheque for 22.71m hryvnias, just take it to any post office.

        • Brian Red

It could also be that neither side prioritises sending dog tag numbers of fallen enemy personnel to the enemy in advance of handing over the bodies.

      • Bayard

“Can’t see how compensation, which seems incredibly generous, would be dependant on return of the body.”

There is no chance, of course, that in a country as incorruptible and upright as Ukraine, people would not claim their relatives to have been killed when they have merely run away and are in hiding, nor would there any chance of officials claiming the money on news of the soldiers’ deaths and then pocketing it.

        • Tatyana

There are conditions for paying compensation to the relatives.
Until there’s an identified body, the person is considered “missing”. Which is logical, since he may be in captivity or escape from the army, as you noticed Bayard.
Then, there will be no payment for those who died while intoxicated with alcohol or drugs. An analysis of the dead body could confirm or refute this.
Well, as far as I know, the payment is not a one-time payment, first a part is paid, then pieces are paid over a period of 40 months. And during this period, either the donkey will die, or the padishah, if you know what parable about Hodja Nasreddin I am talking about.
Dead people who are not listed as dead can be monetized, which was described by the classic of Russian literature Nikolai Gogol in “Dead Souls” about 200 years ago.

    • Tatyana

I believe that Western media are not independent, but serve their collective Western leadership, which is why there are no reports.

At the last negotiations in Istanbul, The Wall Street Journal journalist Matthew Luxmoor requested an interview with Medinsky, the head of the Russian negotiating team. He was offered a half-hour interview on the way to the airport, so the media would have had an exclusive first-hand info. Matthew first tried to call his editorial office, obviously did not succeed, and simply walked away!
This is independent journalism, honestly and impartially informing the public!

In Istanbul, agreements were reached on the exchange of soldiers’ bodies. With a pre-arranged place and time. Since yesterday, 1,212 (first part of 6,000) bodies of Ukrainian soldiers are waiting in refrigerated trucks at the border.
The Ukrainian side did not show up and did not comment on its refusal.
Do you see them free and independent Western media sent their reporters to the scene? No? Neither do I.

Did you see them honest and truthful Western media reported that Ukraine finally handed over to the Russian delegation a list of Ukrainian children? The Istanbul list contains 339 names.
And I think that this is not being reported because it would go against the already created hype about 1.5 million kidnapped children, for which Putin received a warrant from the international criminal court.

About the frozen bodies awaiting return to their relatives – the fallen soldiers have been identified, the lists of the dead have been published by the governor of the Zaporozhie region.
Why don’t the BBC or Reuters publish them? WSJ? NYT?
Oh yeah, they’re only allowed to get their information from approved sources, and they obviously don’t consider it standard of their profession to go to the scene and do a live report in real time.

      • Stevie Boy

“Russian officials have unveiled the identities of nearly 100 fallen Ukrainian soldiers who were among the more than 6,000 Moscow has offered to return to Kiev in a unilateral humanitarian gesture during the latest round of direct talks in Istanbul on Monday.
The governor of Russia’s Zaporozhye Region, Evgeny Balitsky, published the first six pages containing 97 names, identification documents, and places of death on Saturday evening, after Ukraine reportedly refused to receive the remains of thousands of its troops.”
        https://www.rt.com/russia/618791-ukrainian-soldiers-names-list/

Obviously, it could be embarrassing for the nazi regime when the places of death are identified as it would show that Ukrainians are being treated as cannon fodder by their ‘leaders’, sacrificed needlessly.
‘Into the valley of death rode the 6,000 …’

    • Republicofscotland

      Stevie Boy.

As far as I’m aware the Neo-Nazi dictator Zelensky – doesn’t want the bodies back, simply because it would cost too much in compensation, to the families of the fallen (Neo-Nazis) ones.

The British have been behind every attempt to escalate the war in Ukraine, generally to US disapproval and always at great cost to Ukrainian lives. The 2023 counteroffensive, the Kursk incursion, the attempted recreation of D-Day at Krinky – all London-planned debacles, confirmed earlier this year by voice of the British deep state The Times.

Almost certainly this latest effort too, the significance of which was predictably overblown by the British media. In recent days Politico and Reuters have both confirmed that the attack into Russia had very limited military utility, destroying barely a tenth the number of bombers initially claimed. Obviously it has had no impact whatsoever on the frontline reality, which is that Russia is advancing at an ever increasing rate and scale, seizing new territory every day, inflicting vast casualties on Ukraine every step of the way.

One more failure won’t daunt Starmer’s handlers in desperately trying to keep the slaughter in Ukraine going, even to the cost of bringing on World War 3. That’s just the nature of the beast. The British remain the world’s arch imperialists: warmongers in chief in Ukraine, logistical directors of the Gaza Genocide, occupiers of Ireland. There is no chance they are going to change.

zoot, your concern for Ukrainian lives lost in Putin’s War on Ukraine is admirable.

Are you not equally concerned about the tragic loss of Russian lives in the Russian Army’s meat wave attacks?

      • Bayard

“Are you not equally concerned about the tragic loss of Russian lives in the Russian Army’s meat wave attacks?”

That presupposes there were any “meat wave” attacks, for which there is no evidence apart from Ukranian army reports trying to cover up their own deficiencies. All very Mandy Rice-Davies.

    • Mac

Don’t forget the recent attempted assassination of Putin using drones to go after his helicopter! I am guessing that is the same.

That (trying to kill the president, decapitate the leadership) and then the attack on the bomber fleet are both events that ‘authorize’ the use of nuclear weapons according to Russia’s own nuclear doctrine apparently.

I know in comparison it is less important geo politically but it was cutting the winter fuel allowances to pensioners, after they had driven up the price of energy to impossible levels, when I knew they had become totally unhinged, psychotic.

This level of deluded insanity is new IMHO. They have ‘lost it’ for some unexplained reason. It can’t be a coincidence that both the most recent attacks are seeming directly aimed at goading / provoking a nuclear response. This is how crazy they have become. Playing Russian roulette… with all our lives.

Two years ago I thought it was ultimately the US driving this lunacy. It has been a surprise to me at least that it is the UK who is most rabid for it, way beyond the US, especially under Trump.

Look at the characters on here promoting it at every turn. I am assuming that is ‘them’ in some form or the other. It is creepy as hell. it really is.

Britain is in a bad way man. I am getting an increasingly bad feeling about it all. They are just not going to stop until… well who can say for sure.

“Apparently” is doing heavy lifting there. Any source for that claim?

          (…)
          g) centralization of the command over the employment of nuclear weapons, including those located outside the territory of the Russian Federation.

          19. The conditions that enable the possibility of nuclear weapons employment by the Russian Federation are as follows:

          c) actions by an adversary affecting elements of critically important state or military infrastructure of the Russian Federation, the disablement of which would disrupt response actions by nuclear forces;

Of course the paragraphs that you quote are vague – allowing for interpretation by the Little Dictator.

In particular: “possibility of nuclear weapons employment” – not *requiring* their employment.

The only circumstances where the LD would consider using nukes is where his survival is at stake….

Ironically, if he did use them against a nuclear armed state he and millions of Russians would die.

Britain has been playing a nefarious role in Ukraine for a very long time, since the 1990s at the very least. That interference escalated in the 2010s after Obama expressed his intention to pivot the US to Asia and stated that Ukraine was a core interest of Russia not Washington.

That severely spooked the British, who set about manufacturing a proxy war to try and force the Americans to stay in Europe. That is what drives all Britain’s efforts to escalate the proxy war to this day. They fear abandonment by a US focused on China.

Should have noted previously that in addition to Britain’s outsized roles in the Ukraine proxy war and the Gaza Genocide, they were also central to the ISIS/ al-Qaeda coup in Syria last year.

** In 2014 Chris Donnel!y (MI6 handler of Paul Mason and founder of the Integrity Initiative) explicitly stated in a parliamentary defence select committee hearing that Britain would take the lead in arming and training the Maidan forces brutalising civilians in Donbas. By all accounts Donnelly is still the figure directing the British obsession with escalating the proxy war over a decade on.

I’ve been remembering Spycatcher back in the 80s and its portrayal of barking mad spooks. Those were going back to the 70s but I doubt a lot has changed since. Then there’s the recent discovery that the current PM may be vulnerable to blackmail. I always thought he was pushed forward because his manifest stupidity made him easy to manipulate but this brings something else into play too. Why are there so many kinks in the Palace of Westminster? Is it that they got there too because they are blackmailable? Then there was Epstein with his island and camera-filled mansion. Take the barking mad spooks and give them strings to make our leaders dance to their tunes and you can see why we’re in the mess we are.

There’s a theory going around that the reason Corbyn was monstered was because he wasn’t blackmail material. There’s also the phenomeneon of people who say sensible things in opposition or from the back benches, suddenly trotting out the party line and only the party line once they get into spitting distance of the levers of power.

It’s all very simple in fact. Ukraine has a promise from NATO that they will enter the war if Russia uses nuclear weapons. Hence the fuss around the Zaporizhzhya NPP. Hence the breakthrough towards Sudzha, Kursk region, there is also a NPP in Kurchatov.
        Hence all these provocations.
They need at least some kind of nuclear incident so that all the media will start screaming about security and the criminal inaction of Western countries.
Without the direct participation of NATO troops, Ukraine will lose. They simply do not have that many soldiers. Simple arithmetic.

Not so. Vietnam received huge assistance from the USSR (maybe China too?) and the Taliban received huge assistance from the USA in their respective wars.

If you believe that the 4 oblast votes to leave Ukraine and join Russia were free and fair I’d be interested to see your sources.
Even the Crimea vote did not have impartial observers.

          • ET

You are correct JK. Bad slip on my part even though I spent 13 school years studying Irish many years ago. How embarrassing. I’ll endeavour to do better next time.

Assistance from outside still doesn’t mean that the Vietnamese wanted USA interference nor the Afghans wanted Soviet interference. Despite the huge assistance from USA to Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation the Afghans didn’t appear to want American interference during the USA/UK attempt to occupy Afghanistan.

As to the votes of Crimea and the other four oblasts I am inclined, on the balance of probability, to believe they were genuine given likely ethnicity and that immediately after the illegal USA sponsored 2014 maidan coup they declared their intentions. At least Crimea, Donbass and Luhansk did iirc.

I have to ask again JK. Given that you earlier stated that western support for the Gaza genocide is an “abomination” don’t you think that you should, at least as an exercise in entertaining an idea without necessarily believing it, consider that the very same western powers might be behaving as abominably with respect to Ukraine and Russia?

Thanks for taking my linguistic comment in such good part. Here in Brussels people are often quite touchy about pronunciations and such.

You said that ” Assistance from outside still doesn’t mean that the Vietnamese wanted USA interference nor the Afghans wanted Soviet interference. Despite the huge assistance from USA to Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation the Afghans didn’t appear to want American interference during the USA/UK attempt to occupy Afghanistan.”

I think we are at cross purposes here.

During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, the Taliban were very happy to accept US “interference” just as the Vietnamese were happy to accept Soviet ” interference” during their war with the USA.

And of course Ukraine is happy to accept “interference” from the US.

I do think that the ethnicity point is overdone by apologists for Putin. After all, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and Canada (even the USA ) are all overwhelmingly anglophone and once British but no one suggests that on that basis these states should be reincorporated into a new Empire.

Finally I’ve been accused of argumentum ad hominem here.
I’m on safe ground saying that just because the Zapad (and the Arab states and indeed Russia and China) have behaved abominably towards Palestine by commission and by omission, it doesn’t follow that their actions towards Ukraine is also mistaken and immoral.

It’s unfortunate that the Taliban did not exist in the time of the USSR occupation of Afghanistan, so it’s not very surprising that the USSR failed to defeat them. The US did find jihadis to arm and pay to fight the USSR, but they were only later united under the Taliban flag. The US created its own defeat.

Ireland is another example of a small country with limited resources defeating a much larger force, ie the British Empire. In 1916 they accepted offers of help from Imperial Germany but there was never any suggestion of Germany ruling Ireland. During WW2 the IRA collaborated with the Nazis, providing intelligence about Allied bases in Ulster in return for arms and explosives, but I doubt there was much desire on their part to become part of the Reich. It was purely a marriage of convenience if you like.

There are many more examples of small colonies driving out their European rulers, often with a foreign power providing help, in the 1950s and 60s. See Aden and the Malaya ‘Emergency’ to name but two.

We were told that Crimea and the other Oblasts in Ukraine wanted in independence; how did they end up voting for direct rule from Moscow?

          • ET

Pears, the IRA were not part of the Irish Free State forces at the time of WWII. De Velera had entered the Dail in 1937 and became Taoiseach. Incidentally that was the same year the Irish constitution was introduced. The stated policy of Ireland during WWII was neutrality albeit with a favourable bias to the allies and the UK in particular. Lost allied pilots were returned to UK whilst lost German pilots were interred. Given De Velera’s past as the leader of the 1916 Easter Rising and of the anti-treaty civil war forces I guess it’s not inconceivable there was some sympathy for unofficial IRA former colleagues’ German contacts but it wasn’t official policy. The then IRA were not part of the Irish forces at that time and would have been considered terrorists by many. However, given it was a short time after all the historic events between the Easter Rising and the creation of the Irish Free State, civil war etc there was probably some less than official support. Ireland didn’t declare as a republic until 1949 (according to Wikipedia). Somehow my brain is saying that was 1952 but I could be misremembering my history classes.

          • Tatyana

It’s strange that you compare it to Ireland.
During WWII, Ukraine was a Reichskommissariat, like the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and the Baltics.

          • Tatyana

If you are interested in the differences, let me know. I’ll enlighten you on how locals willing to collaborate with the Reich were hired as policemen and concentration camp guards. How punitive detachments were formed from locals to suppress resistance to the Reich.
Ah, silly me, you probably know it yourself, the Canadian parliament applauded one of them recently.

You see, people here know that their grandparents died because they did not allow the Reich to make soap out of other grandparents. It ‘s simply impossible for us to applaud a Ukrainian! who fought against! the Russians in the WW2

If you want to understand the culture of the institutions that the elites dominate in Europe a good place to start may be Robert Musil’s 1906 debut novel [The confusions of] Young Torless. It shows the nursery in which a lot of the above mentioned are educated and conditioned.

    • Brian Red

That looks interesting, @JohnnyOh45. I see there’s a film too. Robert Musil also wrote “The Man Without Qualities” that Guy Debord rated highly.

The Nazi “Napola” schools were modelled on the English elite schools, except that the Nazis thought the fagging system was a bit too authoritarian. In many countries around the world, members of local ruling elites still aim to send their sons to English elite schools. And not just in English-speaking countries, but in China and Russia and Arabia.

Another reference is the crypteia in ancient Sparta, where posh boys would, in order to build their own characters, murder members of the lower orders.

Certainly the culture and the mentality of the English ruling class is founded first and foremost on a hatred and contempt for the common people, proles, members of the public, chavs, townies, scrotes, people who went to state schools, call them what you will but the large majority of the population. Anyone who doesn’t recognise this fact knows f*** all about England.

All talk of making English capitalism “democratic” or “meritocratic” is essentially lies told by those who are sniggering behind their hands. This is except when it’s actually believed in by members of the lower or middle orders. They are so naive it is cringe-making. They are acting as if they were prisoners of war on the brink of starvation, forced to eat the vomit spewed up by enemy officers after a binge meal, and saying “yum yum, this tastess so goooood and they are so kind to share it with us”. That is what “democracy” means.

I will look at that Torless book. Sounds worth reading.

When William Golding got the Nobel prize for “Lord of the Flies” – a rare achievement just for writing a single book – the judges all thought oh woooow this is amazing, how imaginative and creative this guy is…whereas English guys who’d been to boarding school just said “Oh OK, he’s written about an English boarding school”.

      • david warriston

”All talk of making English capitalism “democratic” or “meritocratic” is essentially lies told by those who are sniggering behind their hands.”

A useful indicator of the difference between a democracy and an autocracy: in a democracy the rulers snigger at you up their sleeve; in an autocracy they laugh in your face.

In the UK a good example of the former is watching politicians shuffle reverentially in front of the cenotaph once a year, trying to keep a straight face. Sometimes they don’t bother to make the effort and laugh straight out, like during a royal ceremony.

      • JohnnyOh45

Thanks Brian. I recollect Orwell reviewed it and was scandalised by it (Young Torless). Yes the Spartans controlled the helots. The writer John Wight has posted some interesting stuff on this. I am doing some reading on the Chartists and the Land Reform leagues. Having gone to a bog standard comprehensive myself I never really gained a sense of how important the 19th Century as a whole was. Better late than never !

P.S The Man without qualities is a massive tome, which is sat on my bookshelf with all the other classics I still haven’t read. Young Torless is more of a novella and doesn’t take long to read.

      • Bayard

“Anyone who doesn’t recognise this fact knows f*** all about England.”

I’m afraid the ignorance is on your part. What you portray is a stereotype, which is as unrepresentative of the majority as are all stereotypes. The use of stereotypes tends to indicate a lack of thought with little effort being made to find out how things really are as the stereotype is held to be universal. Yes, there are members of the upper classes who are like you say, but they, too are indulging in the same intellectual laziness, only with respect to the working classes, and they, too, are mercifully in the minority. England is a very class-conscious country, as you have so amply demonstrated. However, that class-consciousness does not necessarily translate to snobbery. The snob, too is a stereotype. It’s no different to interacting with someone with a different coloured skin. It is almost impossible not to be aware that their skin is a different colour to your own, but that does not mean that they have to be better or worse than you based on that difference alone.

A humanitarian aid ship run by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition is nearing Gaza. The ship is called the Madleen. The FFC’s vessel called the Conscience was bombed by Israeli drones near Malta last month.

This (nautical adventure) makes me feel more vomitous than even the highest of seas.” (Thanks for letting us know how ultra-racist murderous nutters feel inside, Zoe.)

The site explains: “Since 8 October 2023, Israel has escalated its genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza in an attempt to destroy all forms of life. The Isr*eli military has murdered tens of thousands of people, if not hundreds of thousands.” You almost have to laugh. It’s not clear whether any of these activists, drunk on their love of themselves, are even aware of October 7 or Hamas. And “all forms of life”? Are they saying Isr*elis murder plants and pets too?” (But she finds time in between vomiting for laughter against her side’s victims.)

That is some serious amount of hatred that this woman is carrying against those who dare to assist concentration camp inmates under attacks by Zion*zi tanks and airforce.

How does a person get like that?

Anti-Isr*el chanting, stickering, posturing and boycotting has been a mainstay of Lefty life for as long as I’ve been alive. But since October 7, a new normal has spread and spread; a kind of slow-release pogrom, if you will. The loony Left, once possible to ignore, is now everywhere, and everything.

She even dares to say the word “pogrom” when cheering on the criminal regime that is engaged in a murder operation on a far larger scale than any pogrom.

As for October 7, that was when some inmates broke out of a concentration camp. She would rather they had stayed inside the fence. (Does she not understand that nobody who can’t take a joke should hold a party a short way outside the fence of a concentration camp?)

I hear that the boat is going to be greeted by a boat of Israeli children singing:

Greta – We Love You – Greta We Do

Even though you’re far away etc etc

Then the torpedoes come into play.

Israel innocently ( aren’t they always innocent?) claims they were only ‘ Warning Torpedoes’

Like Children walking head first into bullets.

Just one bullet only though, which is strange.

        Not sure that’s true?

I do hope that people in Russia realize that ordinary people in Britain are total passengers when it comes to all this mentalist Russophobia being crammed down their necks 24/7 by the BBC et al.

We are subjected to unbelievable levels of propaganda in this regard, way in excess of Soviet levels.

For me this was demonstrated when Russia ‘invaded’ in 2022 and 95% of Scottish nationalists all trotted out every BBC Russophobic bullshit talking point straight out of MI6’s gob. They were and are all vehement! That was the moment I parked it.

They did not learn a fucking thing from 2014 is what I realized in that instant. ‘Oh they totally lied to us about independence but they are totally telling us the truth about Russia Putin etc blah blah blah drone wheeze… How thick can you get. Staggering.

About an hour ago, five Occupation speedboats encircled the Madleen in international waters. Since then they have drawn back. The Madleen is continuing to move towards Gaza.

Francesca Albanese is posting live updates to X. I don’t use X but wonder how long she will be allowed to post.

Albanese reports that the humanitarian team members were speaking with Occupation soldiers, the implication being that the speedboats were military. Basically a foreign country’s military is harassing a civilian British ship in international waters.

      From TOI

“ Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the military to screen a video showing atrocities committed on October 7, 2023, to detained activists who had attempted to challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza, his office says in a statement.
The harrowing 43-minute video produced by the Israel Defense Forces spokesperson’s office shows shows uncensored, difficult-to-watch footage of people being massacred and bodies mutilated during the onslaught, much of it taken from terrorists’ bodycams.
“It’s appropriate that Greta the antisemite and her Hamas-supporting friends should see exactly who is the terror group Hamas that they support and act on behalf of, what atrocious acts they carried out on women, the elderly and kids, and who Israel is fighting for its defense against,” Katz says in the statement, referring to Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, the most famous of the 12 activists aboard the boat.
He orders that the video be screened for the group once they arrive at Ashdod, where their boat is being towed to after soldiers took control of the ship as it neared the Gaza coast overnight.
Katz praises the soldiers for their swift takeover of the ship. Footage from before soldiers boarded shows that the activists planned to make a show of not putting up resistance.
Israel has shown the atrocities video, titled Bearing Witness, to journalists and public figures in limited screenings around the world as part of its efforts to rally support for its war on Hamas, though its use of the footage has occasionally garnered controversy.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry posts a picture of Thunberg, in a signature frog hat, smiling as she is offered a sandwich from a soldier.”

I notice that today’s edition of the graun fishwrap includes a piece titled “Claims that UK spy agencies aided CIA torture after 9/11 to be heard in rare trial.

I’m sceptical of the import of the article because this is the graun we’re talking about and while in usual graun style it presents as an article concerned that england’s security service “may have been involved in torture’, the article may have been published as an intro to a series on the case which omits telling evidence or even that the evidence was given in camera or whatever they call it.

As someone who was tortured by metro coppers once I do find it tough to believe that the thugs in police aren’t replicated in the ‘security’ services.
As for the state secretly siding with the zionist entity we can’t be surprised given starmer supported starvation of Palestinians right from the beginning of this phase of zionist genocide of the Palestinians, probably about Oct11th or 12th.

I reckon the same type undoubtedly still infests the polis today, consequently there’s bound to exist wannabe chief constables lining up sufficient gossip & innuendo about anyone on their patch who they believe getting convicted or otherwise oppressing would make the home office happy.

The Zionist military have seized a British humanitarian ship in international waters and are taking it and all aboard to occupied territory. The only good news is that there have been no reports that any of the humanitarians have been killed or injured.

The Zionists’ “foreign ministry” has asked their supporter Elon Musk to circulate a message saying the captives are “expected” to return to their “home countries”.

It is of course the occupiers of Palestine who should return to their home countries. Those who try to assist the inmates of the Gaza concentration camp are welcome in Palestine.

I would like to see the government in Gaza give them Palestinian citizenship.

Anyone who has the right to nominate them for a Nobel peace prize should do do. ( From memory, I think this may include all members of parliament in every country.)

Meanwhile it is unclear why British people should continue to pay taxes to a regime that won’t defend British ships from seizure by foreign military forces in international waters – an act of war against Britain even if it does not appear that any shots were fired.

      • Bayard

“Meanwhile it is unclear why British people should continue to pay taxes to a regime that won’t defend British ships from seizure by foreign military forces in international waters”

The British government are probably only too glad to see the back of the crew of the Madleen and are probably hoping the Israelis will lock them up and throw away the key.

The police use Israeli technology, are trained in Israeli tactics and utilise Israeli (palantir) spy software. This is not so much down to the educationally stunted stormtroopers on the ground but down to senior police management and government policy. It’s not about the law it’s about control of the masses. We are the enemy, we are seen by those in power as their own Palestinians, or n*ggers, to be oppressed, controlled, culled.

  • Brian Red

The terrorist entity says it will “screen” a film for the hostages it captured this morning on the high seas. It says this film will be about “October 7”. That’s its name for the breakout operation launched from the Gaza concentration camp into other occupied territory in 2023.

The MSM is faithfully reporting this announcement by the terrorist entity.

Well here are some films of Zionist soldiers having a whale of a time mocking their victims. Pay attention to the relaxed glee on some of these psychotic killers’ faces. They really are enjoying what they’re doing. (Anyone who doubts this, please watch the films and reconsider.) They are “playing God” by committing genocide, making a territory unliveable in, and whooping it up like the cowards that they are, having lost a tiny number of their own forces in an operation in which they have already murdered tens of thousands of Arab civilians.

By using the Guardian app, other users are effectively providing “cover” and helping us to protect sources.”

An absolutely contemptible newspaper. At least the Sun and Mail are relatively open about their political allegiances. The Guardian are the authoritarian and militaristic mouthpiece of the UK state, sneakily complementing that fact behind divisive race and gender issues, jam-tomorrow political stories, anti-Trump vitriol (not Netanyahu, of course) and below-the-line commentators who often seem to be inhouse they are so vanilla and right-on. Shock horror, Farage is going up in the opinion polls! No surprise because the Guardian relentlessly hypes Farage, in common with the rest of the British media, and all those pledges of scrupulous, independent journalism strangely go by the wayside when Farage is involved without even basic journalism. Presumably Farage is another of the US-backed stooges that our ‘free and fearless media’ aren’t allowed to touch.

It appears that the freedom flotilla heading to Gaza was seized illegally in international waters – the Zio-Monsters seized the boat, and the people onboard have more than likely been arrested by now – many onboard were forced to throw their mobile phones into the sea – surely the seizing of the flotilla in international waters, is a breach of international maritime laws.

How much longer will the international community standby and watch the Zionist commit genocide, and break just about every International humanitarian law under the sun.

      Ros

The interception of the yacht was very strange – as well as arrogant (by the IDF) to the point of hubris.

The business of telling the passengers and crew to throw their phones in the sea?
Just leave your phone in a locker below decks. The IDF will probably find it but mebbe not.
And what are the boarding party going to do to “disobedient” people? They are at least briefly in the eye of the MSM so pretty much immune from being roughed up.

So why didn’t the skipper broadcast a Mayday? Tell the boarding party to fvck off and die?

For people who, to their credit, went to considerable trouble and some personal risk, they seem to have been very meek in the denouement. Sitting in the cockpit like baa lambs.

I wonder what the “white material” was. Hard to believe that even the IDF would have been reckless enough to dose the people on the yacht with anything.

And the promise/threat to (?) force them to watch a propaganda video about the Hamas attack? What are the Israelis going to do? Tie them to chairs and tape their eyes open?

      Weird.

For the avoidance of doubt I’m 100% supportive of the people on the yacht, maybe they had agreed in advance to cooperate with the boarding party. Perhaps the owner of the boat insisted on this as a condition of allowing his boat to be used.

      • Brian Red

The reason for the order to throw phones overboard may be that the Zionist command doesn’t want to sustain public relations damage from its soldiers using them to commit online fraud (as they did using bank cards they stole during the Mavi Marmara massacre) or to get hold of family members’ and friends’ numbers and then making mocking phone calls, as the scum that they call “defence forces” have been enjoying doing in Gaza.

The white substance is said to have been too thick to be the skunk water the Zionist police use against (Jewish) demonstrators. It certainly would have had psychological effect if the humanitarians weren’t expecting it. I don’t believe it was for detectability or visibility. It may have contained stuff that is reactive to electromagnetic radiation of certain frequency. Or it could be skunk water mixed with something to make it more sticky given the maritime environment.

All very true but I’m just wondering is this level of compliance (given the B list celebs on board) not a bit strange?

          • Pears Morgaine

Last time this happened nine people got killed so I don’t blame them for being compliant.

The instruction to throw away the ‘phones appears to have come from the vessel’s skipper, it could be that as well as the reasons Brian gives they didn’t want the Israeli’s going through their contacts list, finding out who their friends and backers were and putting them at risk. Possibly they should not have taken the ‘phones with them at all as of course they can be tracked.

This was only ever a publicity stunt, the boat is not carrying a significant amount of aid and no attempt was made at secrecy, so presumably detention by the Israeli authorities was part of the plan. You do have to ask what was the point. There can’t be anybody on the planet unaware of what’s going on in Gaza.

I suspect that non of them expected to get to Gaza ( about 150 plus away from Gaza) anyway.

What some people were expecting ( considering Israel’s propensity to blow up anything and

I think – as some have said, that the so called celebs, knew they wouldn’t enter Gaza, or infact get anywhere near it, the sailing to Gaza in the boat, was more of a protest – to draw wider attention to the genocide, and to further expose the actions of the Zio-Monsters.

No matter how poor or badly thought out the plan was by the celebs – the drawing of attention to the plight of the Palestinians – especially in Gaza with the ongoing genocide in mind, is always a positive, and the majority of the Corporate Controlled Media (CCM) reported on it.

Yes very unusual – I’d have expected their phones to have been confiscated – then sent to the intelligence department, and every contact or conversation they had – would then be investigated to find out who they’ve spoken to and what plans have/had been made by them with regards opposing the genocide in Gaza.

    • zoot

If the international community had been just standing by and watching there would not be a genocide.

Israel would very rapidly have run out of equipment to tear children to pieces.

The international community (as the term is used by the BBC) is PERPETRATING the Gaza Genocide, not least the British government and Army.

      • Brian Red

When they say “the international community”, British state propagandists at the BBC mean the USA plus the regimes in Britain and other USA bumsniffer countries. When they say things like China is trying to look good etc., these bubble-dwelling cretins mean look good to the men who hang out in clubs in St James’s or in senior common rooms at Oxford. They think they’re highly skilled, especially at what they call their foreign “office” (because calling it a “ministry” would sound infra dig), at understanding the fuzzywuzzies’ mentality. Nonetheless it must still be noted that neither of the two grownup countries that have permanent membership of the UN Security Council, namely Russia and China, have sent Zionist ambassadors packing since the start of the genocide.

Yes Brian – we see the same kind of false claim with the Neo-Nazi dictatorship in Ukraine – the usual speel from the Western propaganda machine with regards to Ukraine – is, The World is behind Ukraine – when what they actually mean is the Five Eyes, and some European countries are behind Ukraine, whilst the majority of the world’s countries, are either not – or neutral.

All recent comments about the Freedom Flotilla ought to be a lot more nuanced I think.
Many readers of this blog must remember that only a while ago our gracious host was planning to join the endeavor. And his curriculum is certainly a lot more impressive than Greta Thunberg´s. Was she ever a Rector anywhere?
This discussion regarding throwing the cellphones in the sea sounds dismal. Obviously, they had erased all data previously, and the cloud copy is still there whenever needed.
What is more troubling, and not mentioned so far, is that almost half the crew on the ship were French activists. Really disappointing. France belongs to the despicable West, no?

    • Brian Red

@Melrose – They’re not representing the French state, though, are they? As for Greta Thunberg, she has talked a lot of crap about green, but that is completely irrelevant to her courage in participating in this humanitarian mission, and to the fact that she is 100% on the right side where the ongoing genocide is concerned. She is also being held captive by fascist genocidalist occupiers.

As for the phones, you say the discussion has been dismal but your beliefs that they had no data on them and that the humanitarians trusted the cloud with all their data anyway don’t exactly seem impressively clued-up.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition could probably handle the propaganda side a lot better, but nonetheless they are doing a great job. Let us hope none of them suffer lasting health problems from the Occupation’s use of the chemical weapon against them.

The US/Israel are using the big stick against the Muslim countries in the middle east, they appear to be very successful, subjugating Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Egypt and the vassal Gulfies. Only Iran stands in the way of the greater Israel project and US hegemony in the region.
With Israel/US demanding no uranium enrichment of any kind, the stage is set to eliminate the last bastion of resistance to Israel/US hegemony in the middle east, can Iran stop them? Or is Iran with the backing of Russia and China too strong for them to take on. In my opinion it will be either a greater Israel or more likely a destroyed Israel.

When Greta Thunberg was pushing the government and big business line on anthropogenic “climate change”, politicians used to love patting her on the head and having their photos taken with her. She was nothing but a mascot then, a government and big business one.

Now when she is doing good work, actually thinking for herself and opposing genocide, about which most governments are doing nothing (to put it mildly), she’s as welcome as a fart in a space suit.

Britain does eff-all when the civilian British ship she is on is captured by a foreign regime’s military on the high seas. Sweden does eff-all when the “defence minister” of the same regime – which is Nazi to the core – slanders her name, and when the regime promises to conduct “medical examinations” of all the hostages it seized on the ship.

This says a lot about what’s real opposition and what isn’t.

I think a couple of orderlies in white coats must be looking for him. Don’t tell him Russia is increasing its sales of coal, he will start worrying about ‘the mine shaft gap’. Don’t forget it was NATO that expanded to Russian borders.

        Harry Law.

Harry from what I’ve read the British/US planned the attack on the Russian nuclear bombers using Ukrainian forces – it was an attacked planned a while back – recent Russian attacks in Ukraine are not attacks on British or US assets, as far as I aware, those especially on British assets have still to come.

The British military is pretty puny – and even its nuclear subs are now well past their prime, though still capable of a strike, and for me Nato’s Article 5 isn’t worth the paper its printed on I doubt other Nato members would attack Russia if Russia attacked a British asset.

Just to tell you what you already knew!

But it is still insane to read about these short exchanges –

machine-translation from the excerpt of the regular press conference of the German government on Israel:

(When Chris Hedges mentioned Germany recently he could only shake his head and offer a wry smile. The level of hypocrisy and dishonesty is just beyond anything we have seen since 1945.)

    “(…)
Foreign Office still sees no violation of international law by Israel in Gaza”

On May 26, Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared for the first time that Israel, with its actions in Gaza, “is now truly violating international humanitarian law.” At the federal press conference on June 4, however, the Federal Foreign Office (AA) would not acknowledge this assessment and stated that it was continuing to investigate whether Israel had committed war crimes or violated international humanitarian law. However, the federal government had not yet provided any findings of its own on this matter. Against this backdrop, NachDenkSeiten wanted to know whether the AA now even contradicts the Chancellor’s assessment and what the official government narrative is regarding Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.”

    By Florian Warweg

    (…)
Excerpt from the minutes of the government press conference of 4 June 2025

    Question Jung:
I’d like to point out that you’ve somewhat sidestepped my question. Did I understand you correctly that the Foreign Office has not yet determined that Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza? Are you still investigating?

    Hinterseher (AA)
I just commented on this. I told you that we have no independent knowledge of the cases—especially these incidents. That’s correct.

    Question Jung:
You are investigating whether war crimes have been committed so far. You haven’t identified any Israeli war crimes in the year and a half of this war.

    Hinterseher (AA)
I have just told you what I have to say about this, Mr. Jung.

    Question Warweg:
Mr. Merz stated on May 26 that, in his opinion, Israel had at the very least violated international law with its intervention in Gaza. Do I understand correctly that the Foreign Office now even contradicts the Chancellor’s assessment?

    Hinterseher (AA)
No, you just heard my assessment of this. The Federal Foreign Minister and the Federal Chancellor have spoken out. I have nothing to add to these statements.

    Government Spokesperson Kornelius:
You must clarify that the Chancellor’s statement referred to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and he consistently urges Israel to comply with international humanitarian law, especially when it comes to distributing food and providing aid to the civilian population. Your colleague has made a sufficient statement on this.

I would like to reiterate: This distribution concerns us, but it also concerns us because Hamas is clearly exploiting these aid deliveries. Therefore, we appeal to both parties to the conflict to treat the civilian population according to the rules of international humanitarian law.

    Question Warweg:
I’d like to understand the government’s narrative. They’re saying: Yes, Israel has violated international humanitarian law; but this does not constitute a war crime. Do I understand that correctly?

    Kornelius:
The German government has appealed to Israel to comply with international humanitarian law. That’s a different formulation.

    Supplementary question: Warweg:
The Chancellor phrased it differently than you did. He spoke of a violation of international law, and you’ve now retracted that. That’s why I wanted to know: What is the government’s internal wording on this? Could you clarify that? – At least the Chancellor’s statement is that Israel is violating international humanitarian law. But when it comes to framing this as an international crime or war crime, the Federal Government refrains from doing so.

    Kornelius:
You know that Israel fundamentally has the right, enshrined in international law, to defend itself against Hamas attacks. This right of self-defense must be consistent with the provisions of international humanitarian law. The German government has emphasized the importance of upholding international humanitarian law with regard to the civilian population. The Chancellor has done so repeatedly. This is a change in tone that you have described several times. I don’t think we can help you further with your position at the moment.
    (…)”

    • Harry Law

These contradictory answers are duplicated by are own government, i.e. 300 civil servants have protested Israeli war crimes, but have been told if you do not like government policy you can do the honorable thing and resign.
In their letter of 16 May the staff, from embassies around the world and at various levels of seniority, questioned the UK’s continued arms sales and what they called Israel’s “stark … disregard for international law”
The UK government’s position is that Israel is “at risk” of breaching humanitarian law, the threshold for barring arms exports, but says it is for international courts to determine if breaches of international law have occurred, which will not be fully determined for many years.
It is to be hoped that people power will remove these war criminal creeps asap.

        “people power”

What’s that, when it is at home, apart from the possible ability to replace one lot of shysters with an almost identical bunch every five years or so?

  • AG

As German media sources in Ukraine are concerned: they almost do not exist if one looks for sincerity and honesty.

    – German reporters do not even get near the info that would be crucial and potentially damning.
    – If they tried to they very quickly would get their boundaries shown either by Ukrainian authorities or their bosses at home after a phone call from Kiev to Berlin.
    – Most reporters rely on Ukrainian stringers and liaison anyhow which means you already have a giant censorship filter built in by design of how the news aggregation functions. This is standard today in most countries so nobody questions it.
    – Most reporters/journalists don´t even question what Ukrainians are telling them especially if it confirms what they already think to know about how bad Russia is.

So the entire information system is circular and sealed like a safe and essentially rigged. This has nothing to do with journalism or epistemic traditions which were established during the era of Enlightenment.

There is zero scrutiny and zero chance to actually take a different direction and “change” or even “question” the narrative because there is no independent raw data available in the first place. It’s like in the Middle Ages: The Pope tells you what is truth and what is not. And if you deviate from that you are being punished.

p.s. As an example what is regarded as journalism today I posted an English translation of an interview by German so-called “left” daily TAZ (once legendary) in the forum here

“There is a whole system of indoctrination”
Russia has kidnapped thousands of Ukrainian children in order to raise them in a way that is loyal to Putin. Lawyer Kateryna Rashevska specializes in these cases.”

It’s about the ongoing farce about abducted Ukrainian children.

The interviewer from TAZ does everything in his power to help affirm the <!– interviewee´s –< interviewee's narrative. Zero scrutiny, zero skepticism, zero criticism. Nothing. It’s embarrassing. And this kind of ideological mindset has replaced what once was a vibrant media landscape. That’s how the path marching into downfall looks like, it´s vested in self-righteousness and accompanied by megalomania and Manichaeism.

    • Stevie Boy

Yes. There is one narrative and that is the official narrative, if you deviate you will be punished, have no doubts.

    • Crispa

“Dogma” as a concept outside of its pejorative meaning is very much understudied in the modern context. I think we like to believe that post – Enlightenment we have gone beyond being susceptible to the power of dogmatic thought with all the talk about having freedom of thought and expression etc.
I think a strong case could be brought for “dogma” in its various conflicting forms to have an even stronger impact now than it had in the medieval ages and it seems to be what is driving collective western political processes at present; creating a collective neurosis and even psychosis with disastrous results. Rationalist thought seems to be much more present in the respective approaches of China, Russia, BRICS, ideas of multipolarity etc.

    • Pears Morgaine

” It’s about the ongoing farce about abducted Ukrainian children. ”

By referring to it as a ‘farce’ are you trying to suggest it didn’t happen?

The ICC, the good guys who are going after Netanyahu and co, have issued indictments against Russia over the issue.

Some scrutiny, skepticism and criticism wouldn’t go amiss in other sources.

The research unit that started all this nonsense was State Department funded and has since been shut down by Trump. The blurb states that it has produced three reports the first in February 2022 which seems to be now unavailable. I can’t locate the second either but the final one dated March 2025 is available from https://files-profile.medicine.yale.edu/documents/a7cf7b6a-3418-4e74-a716-3f049323d728. It purports to be peer-reviewed but it does not say by whom and is largely impenetrable meretricious bunkum, without scientific value and designed purely for anti – Russia propaganda purposes and to stoke Russophobia.

      • Bayard

“The ICC, the good guys who are going after Netanyahu and co, have issued indictments against Russia over the issue.”

That’s an interesting variation on the legal doctrine of falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus, being verus in uno, verus in omnibus and equally untrue. Otherwise known as Gell-Mann amnesia.

I’ve noticed that the likes of the ICC, Amnesty etc are regarded by many around here as the best thing since sliced bread when they go after Israel or the US but soon become CIA/MI5/Mossad controlled stooges if they dare say or do anything against Russia, China, Iran etc.

          • Laguerre

can’t say I’ve seen what you claim. However there were many times when Amnesty bent the knee to US policy, and obeyed. But that’s not the same as what you say.

I understand that one assumes these things did happen with the insane media bias. Initially I too was unsure. Even with senior editors from JUNGE WELT like (former SE) Reinhard Lauterbach and Arnold Schölzl, who are extremely critical of Kiev and NATO buying into the ICC allegation re: Putin and Lvova-Belova, it did not make it easier for me.

But there you see: ideology runs very deep. Because eventually the evidence or lack thereof is decisive. Whatever the sentiments. And I must say that German legacy media by now have a scandalous handling of records when their worldviews are very strongly in place. (JUNGE WELT is not part of that club they are too small and on a surveillance list by German FBI because leftwing. But so far they are still the most honest of the daily papers.)

I have put a few items and comments about the story on the abducted children into the forum here, to not litter this thread. Sorry if there are too many typos. Am in a hurry:

Greta Thunberg – and three other we shall call them celebs just for purpose sake, have been flown out of Israel (Ashdod) she (Thunberg) and the other three are reported to have left voluntarily, whilst another eight celebs, refused to leave and they are now being held in detention – apparently they to will face forced deportation, after 96 hours in detention – Thunberg is also reported to be on a flight heading for Sweden.

    • Melrose

Bad sources, she flew into Paris to begin with. Of course, she’s eventually bound to return to her homeland…
But who cares, whatever fits the agenda…
It’s embarrassing when comments on this blog are hours, sometimes days behind what is everywhere on the Internet. Not limited to the so-called MSM…

      • Republicofscotland

        Melrose.

So she did eventually fly to Sweden, a bit of nit picking there – and how does that fit the agenda – and what agenda is it that it fits?

        • Melrose

          You know better.
And please don’t forget that the Freedom Flotilla is being funded by none other than Zaher Birawi.
I wonder whether the 12 people on the ship were fully aware of the context.
Best to you, try to know who’s on which side. Not always easy I know…

          • Stevie Boy

So, from your comment can we assume you’re not on the side of people who complain about the Israeli genocide ?
Is that because Zaher Birawi is, according to the entire western MSM, a ‘Hamas Operative’ ?

          • Laguerre

“And please don’t forget that the Freedom Flotilla is being funded by none other than Zaher Birawi.”
So what’s wrong with that? That you think it’s a problem is an indicator that you are a supporter of genocide rather than resistance to brutality and occupation.

          • Republicofscotland

            Melrose.

Don’t know much about Birawi – except he’s British/Palestinian, and what the Western Corporate Controlled Media (CCM) have alleged – that he is a Hamas operative and he backs Hamas – correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t Hamas trying to STOP the genocide of the Palestinian people by the Zio-Monsters – and although they are proscribed in some countries including Britain (though that doesn’t stop the British government, or the West in general – getting into bed with the likes (HTS) in Syria, also a proscribed outfit) isn’t the goal to STOP the genocide – or at the very least draw as much attention to it as possible, in order to put pressure on the Zio-Monsters to STOP committing genocide in Gaza; and even though the journey ended in arrest and deportation, it drew more attention to the genocide in Gaza because the (CCM) reported on it.

If you have any further info on Zaher Birawi – please share it with us – though Western (CCM) reports will be digested – they will not be taken as gospel.

You didn’t actually think, that the flotilla would reach Gaza and distribute its aid did you? the main goal was to draw as much attention to the Palestinians horrendous plight – at the hands of the Zio-Monsters, and that was a resounding success.

As for knowing which side I’m on – if you haven’t figured that out by now you never will.

          • Melrose

Dogs bark, and the caravan passes by.

I guess it doesn’t matter as long as donations keep flowing…

            Melrose @1958pm.

    No surprises here.

“Former British Prime Minister David Cameron threatened to defund the International Criminal Court (ICC) and withdraw the UK from its founding treaty if Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan sought arrest warrants for Israeli leaders last year, the Middle East Eye (MEE) has reported.

The ICC issued warrants last November for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three Hamas leaders, for alleged war crimes committed in the Gaza conflict. Washington has since imposed sanctions on Khan, accusing him of abuse of power by going after US allies.”

In a historic shift in UK-Israel relations, Britain is imposing formal sanctions on hardline Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich (Finance) and Itamar Ben Gvir (National Security) after months of inflammatory statements about Gaza have caught the world’s attention. Well, it’s a start, what about the other indicted war criminals including Netantahu.

    • zoot

As with the recent sanctions on certain West Bank settlers, two obvious questions the British public won’t hear the media ask:

Are Starmer and Lammy now exonerated for their participation in the Gaza Genocide?

Has their material support for the Genocide reduced in any way since yesterday?

Even if most of the public are deceived by these crude arse-covering efforts, the legal case against Starmer and Lammy has already been built. The BBC cannot save them (and may itself eventually be held to account).

formal sanctions, Ha ! If the UK actually gave a toss they would cut all diplomatic relations and stop sending arms and supplying intelligence. This is just PR bollox. It doesn’t mean a damn thing. People are still being murdered with the UKs help.

Uh oh, WWIII has just started, according to the Grauniad: “Russia is at war with Britain, the US is no longer a reliable ally and the UK has to respond by becoming more cohesive and more resilient, according to one of the three authors of the strategic defence review.”

Well, those commenters on this blog who were wondering what form Russia’s retaliation against the UK will take will not have much longer to wait.

Well please feel free to delete this comment, as absolute garbage, but the ‘time of the prophets’ has been hailed by many in recent years, the liver eaters and Zionists among them. I don’t know what their favoured versions are, though.
Another popular story teller was the Bulgarian Baba Vanga who specialised in bad news, she is reported to have said before she died in the 1980s that ‘the last president of the United States would be black, and the one after him would get a disease’.
So did it all end with Obama?
After the events in California this last few days, the demise of the ‘United’ States may not be an overstatement. As for Biden, he may have been a Democrat but Greater Israel is his ‘achievement’. At any cost.
So, Will Europe join with Russia? Or be conquered? Our Zionist leaders, Cameron, Starmer, and Mr Theresa May, have led us to this impasse.
And back to the first and finest of them all, Nostradamus quatrains are mixed up to make the timeline onerous to decipher, but his detail about Ukraine is impressive.
‘The city of the hollow mountains will be poisoned through its water supply.’
And it is the ‘Infidel’ who is the enemy of France, he says, even while the third ‘Antichrist’ is from the US, after Napoleron and Hister…. Mabus allegedly started it all with something he did in the Black Sea. But I liked Mabus and thought he was a good guy, opening up the US Navy to gays, women, and green energy. It was finding his name in Nostradamus and then looking him up on the internet in 2006 after thinking it must be an acronym for something, that had me following his career up to 2017 when he gave a brilliant interview.
Whatever. Just a rambling meander around unverifiable and unreliable sources.
Superstitions take root when reason fails. We have been rational beings since the Age of Reason put science and evidence at the root of all government decision making.
Weighing risk is not simple and inflammatory risks are higher than we have known in our lifetimes.
